FACILITIES
TOILETS
As well as running the beach shop, we also operate the public toilets at the beach here in Fowey. One toilet is open 24 hours a day every day for all to use with a further two toilets are available during April to October. There is a baby changing table in the single toilet. The toilet facilities are unisex and free for everyone to use, whether a customer of the shop or not. We do welcome donations to go towards the cost of cleaning and maintenance.
SEATING
There is a small covered seating area just past the shop with numerous benches and great views over the Cove. We provide a basket of blankets to borrow in the shelter in colder weather. There are also benches on the grassed area on top of the old limekiln next to the shop.
SWIMMING
The beach is very popular with swimmers all year round although we would always recommend checking the beach sign for any water quality issues. The beach itself is the responsibility ofFowey Harbour Commissionersand any concerns should be reported directly to them. Boat launching is not permitted at Readymoney. Swimmers should not pass the buoy line at the mouth of the cove and motor powered boats should not cross the buoy line into the cove whether they are being operated under engine power or being rowed in.
CAN I LAUNCH MY PADDLEBOARD OR KAYAK AT READYMONEY?
The short answer to this is yes, there is a publicly accessible slipway onto the beach although no parking at the cove itself. There is no vehicle access onto the beach without special arrangement with the Harbour Office. Given the considerable increase in leisure use of paddleboards and kayaks in the harbour over recent years, Fowey Harbour Commissioners (who are the relevant harbour authority and who own the beach itself) now have a registration scheme where paddleboards and kayaks need to be registered with them. This is for safety reasons and more information is available here.
As well as registering your kit, we would recommend that you read their Paddle Code and FAQs and take note of the public locations suitable for launching craft. It goes without saying that Readymoney gets incredibly busy in peak periods, both with people on the beach and swimmers, including paddling children, in the sea. Anyone using personal watercraft such as stand up paddleboards or kayaks needs to be mindful and considerate of other beach users. Commercial operation (including commercial filming) from Readymoney Cove is not permitted without the relevant licence from Fowey Harbour Office.
CAN I MOOR MY BOAT AT READYMONEY?
Absolutely not. The line of orange and yellow buoys at the mouth of the cove mark the designated swim area. Motor powered boats are not permitted past this line even if they are rowed in. There are no mooring facilities at the beach and protruding engines present a hazard to playing children. Please respect the rules. If you are visiting Fowey by water you will need to make the necessary arrangements to moor your tender at the main pontoon at Albert Quay and then walk to Readymoney.
BEACH WHEELCHAIR
During approximately April to October each year we also have the use of a beach wheelchair, kindly loaned by Cornwall Mobility. Use of this wheelchair is free but is first come, first served and it cannot be reserved. Full information regarding use of the wheelchair is available in the shop.
HIRE FROM US
We have a number of beach deckchairs for hire and also a hire out a small range of beach equipment including unbreakable bodyboards, spades and parasols. Unfortunately these items cannot be reserved and hire is a flat rate per day only, for as long or short a time as you need them.
