OUR STORY

DEFUNCT PUBLIC TOILETS TO QUIRKY SHOP

In 2016 Cornwall Council closed the public toilets at Readymoney Cove in Fowey, along with many other such facilities across Cornwall. Readymoney is popular with locals and visitors alike, as well as attracting passing walkers on both the South West Coastal Path and The Saints Way (which runs between Padstow to Fowey).

I live in Fowey with my husband Andrew, our three boys, two dogs, two cats, chickens and fish and having decided to 'retire' from my 15 year career solicitor, we relocated from Cambridge to Fowey in 2015 after falling in love with Fowey over the previous decade, we even spent our honeymoon here in 2007!

Like many local families, we spend a lot of time at Readymoney and a lack of toilet facilities would have been a disaster. I therefore grabbed a chance opportunity to convert part of the existing toilet block into a beach shop, providing valuable amenity for the beach as well as ensuring the future of free toilets accessible to all those visiting the area.

Readymoney Beach Shop opened in May 2017 and has gone from strength to strength ever since, described in 2017 by the Cornish Guardian as 'Cornwall's cutest beach shop'. The shop is open all year round with at least one public toilet open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Come and see us and say hello!
