Santa by the Sea at Readymoney Cove, Fowey, Cornwall. Christmas 2020

Santa by the Sea

Victoria Clark

On Sunday 13th December 2020 we decided to try something new for Readymoney to bring a bit of festive joy to the children of Fowey after most of the usual events in the run up to Christmas were cancelled. With the help of some brilliant local volunteers, my amazing staff and our children we created a more wonderful Grotto than we ever could have imagined and welcomed over 90 children and their families for socially distanced Covid safe visits with Santa. The weather was very much not on our side and we were on the verge of having to cancel due to high winds but with the help of a hammer, some cable ties and a boat strap we were able to pull it off.

Visiting children received a plastic-free gift bag from Santa including sweets, a wooden elf decoration making kit, one of our brilliant Cornish made wild flower seed balls and a voucher for a hot chocolate from the beach shop, which many took advantage of on the day.

Huge thanks to everyone from the Fowey community (especially the Fowey River Lions) who contributed to success of the Grotto  in some way.
